Admission Policies

Safe Harbor Boy's Home is open to all teenage boys, who qualify for the program, regardless of religion, race, color, creed or national origin.

The first step to admission is to complete the online Application for Placement Inquiry, a short questionnaire to help us identify important information about your child.   Calls to our office will be returned collect (if long distance), but may take several days due to the large volume of calls requesting information.

The most expedient process is to send the Application for Placement Inquiry (link noted above).   A counselor will contact you via email within 48 hours during weekdays, to schedule a time for a telephone interview (typically takes about 25 minutes). At that point it will be determined if an application is warranted.   Once an application is completed, returned, and reviewed a counselor will schedule an interview with the family or determine at that point the child is not acceptable for the program.

Once the interview is complete, the family will be advised if the child is appropriate for admission to the program. At that time, placement can occur immediately if warranted.

We always have more prospects for admission than we have openings. The counselor can advise you of an approximate time to admission during the telephone interview. We do not knowingly admit children from the same neighborhood, city, or school.   We also admit children with a variety of problems, to maintain a balance among peers.

Long term use of medications for psychological, behavioral or emotional problems are not allowed.  If the child is on medications and you have found them effective, then we advise you to seek a medical, clinical or therapeutic type program, as Safe Harbor Boy's Home would not be appropriate.   Parents are warned against removing children from these medications without discussing this with the child's  physician or psychiatrist.

*All required documents must be received prior to placement including a current (within 90 days) medical and dental exam; hepatitis vaccine's; HIV test is strongly encouraged for each child; an original certified birth certificate, social security card, and other items outlined in the application package.   Certified birth certificates and original social security cards must be on file with our office at admission.

Please be aware that all parents involved in the child's life or having custody must be in agreement, come for a tour, and sign admission documents prior to admission.

We understand that families may have to sacrifice both financially and emotionally in order to see their son admitted to the program and moving toward a successful outcome.  Financial links for tuition assistance are listed on the front page of the website.
